2019 Innovation Solutions Program

Program Outline

The region's engineering and heavy industrial sector is seen as being the hub for innovative, cost-effective, production-efficient solutions that address the mining industry needs.

The 2019 Innovative Solutions Program (ISP) will provide businesses in the region’s engineering and heavy industrial sector with an opportunity to improve their business development skills (in particular their value proposition, presentation and pitching skills) before participating in an expo-style event that will connect them with mining houses procurement and innovation teams.  In order to participate in the program, businesses must have an innovative cost-saving or production-efficient service or product to introduce to the mining sector.

The objectives of this program are:

  • Provide participants with the ability to effectively introduce their cost effectiveness and/or production efficiency ideas direct to mining maintenance staff.
  • Promote innovative work being done in the region and how members can provide solutions to clients that are cost effective or add to production efficiency.
  • Connect local businesses with multiple mine houses at one event.
  • Capture the information in regards to the outstanding work that is being done in the region in both written and visual formats to promote the engineering services sector to a wider market/new industries.

A series of workshops will be held in Mackay during April & May to refine the 'selling' skills of the supplier to assist them to engage with the buyer more effectively at the expo.

Resource Industry Network (RIN) has successfully engaged with BHP, Peabody & Glencore in regards to the Brisbane-based expo and also will be targeting Tier One contractors and government stakeholders.

RIN will provide each business with one allocated space at the Expo (includes table, signage and chairs) and also work with participants to produce a profile of each business product to include in an expo directory.

It is anticipated that businesses that participate in the program will generate new work opportunities through the introduction of their offering to a number of mine houses at one event, but also provide them with improved business development skills and marketing material for future use in their business.

The expo in Brisbane will coincide with Myriad, a three-day technology and innovation conference being held in Brisbane. The 2019 Myriad program will showcase emerging technology, inspire with personal stories and educate through immersive experiences. Greater Whitsunday Alliance will host a regional showcase stand with Resource Industry Network and the conference is expected to attract more than 5000 people, including global visitors and over $50 billion in funds represented. Myriad is an outstanding opportunity for local businesses to connect with investors, make international connections and engage with businesses outside of METS.

RIN may have up to 10 complimentary tickets for participants of ISP to attend Myriad, with some to include travel subsidy.
