2017 Chairman's Awards Winners

17-May-2017 EMBARGOED 11PM FRIDAY 12 MAY 2017
Glittering Awards Night Rewards Innovation, Excellence and Leadership

From leading-edge strategies to reducing workplace injuries, to community involvement to promote suicide prevention and the development of an international supply chain to increase cost-effectiveness – some of the region’s most innovative resource services businesses have been celebrated at the Resource Industry Network 2017 Chairman’s Awards last night (Fri).
The awards, proudly sponsored by KPMG, recognise the significant achievement and enterprise that local businesses are demonstrating across six categories, including safety, leadership, export and innovation.

Resource Industry Network Chair Tony Caruso said the evening was hugely successful with more than 340 in attendance at the MECC to celebrate the people, the innovation and the successes of the resource services sector.
“These awards recognise excellence in business and the significant contribution that those businesses make to the regional economy and community. All winners were truly worthy of their awards and I congratulate them on their hard work and outstanding achievement,” Mr Caruso said.
Winners on the night included Techserve for their whole-of-business safety strategy to reduce the recordable injury frequency rate which has shown benefits not just in reduced injury but also in increased morale and efficiency, and Mackay contracting firm QCCS Pty Ltd for their efforts to promote suicide prevention and awareness through shared sponsorship with the Mackay Region Suicide Prevention Network.

Active Adrenalin Performance Coaching was rewarded last night for its ‘Surviving Mining’ initiative, a program that targets the individual to personalise outcomes using virtual tools and phone app technology, as was Mackay Conveyor Equipment for its development of an international supply chain which has enabled it to reduce the overall costs of systems and components and provide a better quality, cost effective product for its customers.

DBCT has set a new benchmark for corporate social responsibility that goes beyond their own organisation. DBCT has recognised the integration between work and life, and the importance of a safety culture going beyond workplace hours, and the reality of domestic violence impacts on employees and their families. Their policy translates to leading a culture that delivers strong steps towards social change addressing respectful relationships, workplace and community safety.

Werner Engineering General Manager Chris Geach was an individual winner on the night for his commercial acumen in leading the company through a period of growth during the market downturn, including building new premises. Mr Geach is also well-known for his personal and family-friendly approach to management as well as his significant contribution to the community.

Bringing their own unique insights and humour to the event was keynote speakers and former Australian Cricketers Darren Lehmann and Jimmy Maher.

Mr Caruso said, “Australian Cricket coach Darren Lehmann and Bulls Masters Managing Director Jimmy Maher were able to present a hugely entertaining and relevant message about producing high performance teams. It was also great to hear about the Australian Cricket team’s latest tour of India as well as Jimmy’s important charity work with the Bulls Masters.”
