Innovative METS sector solutions from regional QLD accelerated through Regional Showcase

MEDIA RELEASE - November 14, 2018

Twenty-four regional Queensland businesses with viable METS sector innovations are currently honing their value propositions, target customers and pitching skills before showcasing their products at a Regional Showcase to be held in Brisbane on November 21st as part of the Queensland Resources Council State of the Sector Forum.

The Queensland Government, in conjunction with METS Ignited, has helped fund the initiative which currently sees the participating businesses undergoing training in readiness for the Regional Showcase and to assist with building commercial capability to accelerate their business outcomes.

The participating businesses have been sourced from three Queensland regions including Mackay, Gladstone and Toowoomba areas, with their respective industry groups – Resource Industry Network, Gladstone Engineering Alliance, and Toowoomba & Surat Basin Enterprise – helping facilitate the initiative.

All of the participating businesses possess innovative solutions that are in the early stages of market development and have significant potential for application in the METS sector.

The Regional Showcase aims to attract buyers and investors to the one-day event and provide them with a prime opportunity to connect with the businesses investing in the future of the METS sector

This showcase will demonstrate how their emerging capabilities, technologies and solutions can help us prepare for the future and address the challenges the mining and resource industries face. It’s a great demonstration of the levels of ingenuity that exist here in Queensland.

The event will be held in conjunction with one of the resource sector’s signature events, the Queensland Resources Council (QRC) State of the Sector Forum, taking place at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

QRC chief executive Ian Macfarlane said the resources industry was one of the major investors in regional Queensland.

“QRC is excited to add this showcase from our regions at the QRC lunch and State of the Sector forum,” Mr Macfarlane said.

“The resources sector creates direct jobs in regional Queensland, and we’re also proud to support the innovative local businesses that partner with us across the supply chain. It’s a great opportunity for these regional businesses to talk to a cross section of the entire resource industry.”

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said the businesses participating all possess innovative solutions that have significant potential for application in the METS sector.

“We hope this showcase attracts more buyers and investors to the forum as it’s a prime opportunity to connect with the businesses investing in the future of the METS sector,” Mr Dick said.

“The METS sector employs about 20,000 people in Queensland, and these new activities are key to achieving our plan to create a further 3000 extra jobs over the next decade.”

Potential buyers or investors are encouraged to attend the showcase and discover the many advanced products and services coming out of regional Queensland. The event runs from 8:30am - 4:00pm and will be located in the halls outside of the forum venue.
