Resource Industry Network calls for support for critical piece of Galilee Basin infrastructure

13-Nov-2017 Resource Industry Network General Manager Adrienne Rourke said, “Our local community understands that without this critical infrastructure, the Galilee Basin opportunities will be lost to the region and regional Queenslanders will miss out on jobs, investment and growth. We have numerous examples where governments and industry have come together to construct vital multi-user infrastructure. Regional Queensland businesses implore all levels of government to dismiss the politics and come together to construct a railway line that will see new mines open, creating jobs and confidence in our community.”

The Galilee Basin will provide significant opportunities for our region starting with jobs during construction and production, it will drive investment in equipment and infrastructure and it will underpin investment by our regional supply chains in their businesses to meet the increased demand for services. The flow on benefits will extend across multiple sectors including retail, property, building and construction and even hospitality. There are not many opportunities like the Galilee Basin that will create such wide-ranging benefits to the entire state of Queensland.
Mrs Rourke continued, “Regional businesses understand the impacts if this rail development does not go ahead and are concerned that continual shifting support by Governments is undermining their future. The resource sector is the foundation of Queensland’s strong economy and it makes absolute sense to secure the future of the sector with this catalytic infrastructure.”

Resource Industry Network wants all levels of government and of all persuasions to provide policy assurance and support to ensure this vital piece of infrastructure proceeds. The futures of the Mining Equipment, Technology & Services (METS) sector shouldn’t be held to ransom by idealistic views and political maneuvering.

“We fully support the opening of the Galilee Basin and the jobs and investment this will bring to our region. A multi-user railway line is the first critical step to securing long term benefits for regional Queenslanders and we call on all parties to move quickly to have this vital piece of multi user infrastructure funded and built”.
