RIN recognises long-serving board member Allan Ruming

Resource Industry Network (RIN) has acknowledged and farewelled long-serving board member Allan Ruming after 17 years’ service to the region’s only industry association.

Mr Ruming has been with the organisation since its inception and is the only remaining original director on the current board. He has worked extensively in the area of industry representation, lobbying and networks development working to improve the outcomes for industry in the Mackay region and the promotion of Paget as a unique industrial precinct with a focus on RIN member businesses.

Presenting the long-time achievement award at last night’s Industry Networking Drinks, RIN chairman Tony Caruso said Allan had played an instrumental role in developing and growing the region’s mining services sector as well as assisting many local businesses.

“Allan leaves an indelible mark on the Resource Industry Network having orchestrated many wonderful initiatives to assist this industry.

“His dedication and persistence are qualities I know many of the current board members aspire to and he leaves us having made an incredible impact on the mining services sector here in the Mackay region,” Mr Caruso said.

In accepting his achievement award, Mr Ruming said the Resource Industry Network had been so successful because it offered many benefits to its members and the sector as a whole.

“The whole reason we got it off the ground in the first place was to advocate the sector in the region for the local industry to develop and grow. This is still one of its core values and the reason it is still so successful,” he said.

In accepting his achievement award, Mr Ruming announced he intended to make a move to Mt Isa for a work opportunity, while also remaining a director of Group Engineering, a company he started in 1991.

Allan Ruming’s contributions include:

·         Chair and deputy chair director – Resource Industry Network (formerly MAIN) 2001 - 2018

·         Founding Chair of MAIN Mackay Area Industry Network (now Resource Industry Network) and has held this or the deputy chair position for 13 years to December 2014. Currently a director of RIN

·         Directly involved in the establishment of Resource Industry Network after working with Hunter Net to determine the benefits and objectives that would be adaptable to the Central Queensland Region.

·         One of 5 business people who formed the original Coal Services Industry Cluster in 1999 that became MAIN.

·         Delivers presentations regarding the facts about the coal industry to community organisations to improve understanding and counter the inaccurate Green view of the world.

·         Has contributed hundreds of hours each year supporting MAIN now RIN operations and staff.

·         Developed and conducted industry tours of Paget to highlight capability and capacity as well as improve non-industry understanding of the contribution Paget makes to the region.
