Career Success for Women in Mining and STEM (Bowen)

This six-hour workshop is designed to assist women in the early stages of their profession to plan for a long-term career in the mining, resources, science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) sectors.

 

Topics covered include:

 

-  Why resources, mining and STEM fields will be among the most sought-after skills in the future.

-  Career planning and goal setting

-  Exploring the barriers that often stifle career progression

-  Developing strong communication skills

-  Strategies for self-promotion

-  Evaluating the roles of networking, mentors and other support mechanisms to help further your career.

 

Each participant will also be provided with a workbook with further resources to help support their career growth.

 

Who should attend:

 

- Female apprentices, trainees, university students,

- Women in the early stages (within five years) of a career or role within mining and resources industries, STEM fields.

 

 

Eligibility Criteria

The Resource Industry Network manages the Equation 4 Equity Project – Mackay Isaac Whitsunday, as funded by the Department of Science and Innovation under the Women In STEM and Entrepreneurship Grant.  Therefore the primary focus on the Approaching A Career in STEM within this program is to provide additional support and resources to women in STEM careers within the resource and mining industry. 

 There are a minimum of 12 places available in each of the 3 course deliveries.

 

The eligibility priorities for entry into this course are as follows:

Priority 1

Female apprentices, trainees, university students or early career women who are currently entering a STEM career within the resource and mining industry

Priority 2

Female apprentices, trainees, university students or early career women who are currently entering a STEM career outside the resource and mining industry

Priority 3

Female apprentices, trainees, university students or early career women who are entering a career in male dominated industry or workplace, where their position is not STEM related (includes industries or workplaces where there is underrepresentation of women in Leadership)

n.b. connection to mining and resources industry will be prioritised over other industries within this category

Priority 4

Women who are not currently engaged in any of the above but have aspirations to move into one of the above categories.  This may include school students, job seekers, career changers.

 

#Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Please advise us if you have any dietary requirements on the registration form.
