Women in STEM

Resource Industry Network is driving improvement across the region to address the gender gap that exists in STEM careers. We manage a number of initiatives to support and develop tailored strategies.

Equation for Equity

Equation for Equity (E4E) - Business Leaders Gender Diversity Toolkit & Webinar

The gender gap that exists in STEM careers across the region is improving and businesses and individuals are invited to download the Equation for Equity Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday Business Leaders Gender Diversity Toolkit.

The toolkit has been designed to support business leaders in our region and allow them to develop tailored strategies to better attract, recruit, retain and reap the rewards of a gender-diverse workforce. A webinar has been created for those local businesses that were unable to attend the workshops for the Business Leaders Gender Diversity ToolKit.

Research suggests that businesses that respect and value the diversity brought by both women and men are better able to attract and retain high performers and improve operational performance.

Equation for Equity (E4E) – Women in STEM Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday

Despite the exciting and innovative career opportunities within our sector, only 12%* are female within the Mackay region.

To help address this gender gap within mining, science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers across our region, Resource Industry Network has been awarded a grant from the Australian Government to deliver an 18-month program.

The E4E-MIW (Equation for Equity – Mackay, Isaac, Whitsunday) program began in early 2017 with a region-wide survey aimed at developing a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the local sector.

The next phase of the program includes the roll out of a series of workshops for both employers and female employees across Mackay, Bowen and Moranbah, which started in February this year.
