METS input critical to establishing export hub direction

The Mackay, Isaac, Whitsunday (MIW) METS Export Hub, as part of Resource Industry Network, is conducting a comprehensive survey of all METS businesses in the region to better understand and improve the export capabilities and opportunities for SMEs.

MIW METS Export Hub Manager Dean Kirkwood said business input was fundamental to the success of the Capability Analysis and Supply Chain Mapping Project.

Understanding the strengths, weaknesses, and barriers of the whole of the supply chain will support the development of a successful export hub.  It will also provide the data required to develop a plan for how our industry sector, and the region, can rapidly evolve, diversify, remain relevant, and increase innovation.

“If we get this right, the benefits to our region will be enormous, so I’d encourage all businesses in the mining equipment and technology services (METS) sector to complete the survey and be part of a project that could potentially set the region up as an highly successful export hub.

“The survey is very important, if not more important now in light of current economic environments and will provide the foundation for the region’s journey into expanding export markets.

“It will also provide us with information about products and technologies that can service other sectors and add to our insights into diversification opportunities for businesses,” Mr Kirkwood said.

“The confidential survey takes around 15 minutes to complete and your input will make a significant contribution to the development of the industry.”

The region’s METS SMEs are encouraged to complete the survey here:

The MIW METS Export Hub was established last year as a result of funding from the Australian Government, Queensland Government, and the Local Buying Foundation, and is tasked with identifying, establishing and driving opportunities in the export space for businesses in the MIW region.
