In what is considered a real coup for RIN, chair David Hartigan said this calibre of speaker reflected the prestige associated with the annual RIN Awards. “Our success in securing Bernard Salt as our keynote speaker this year is testament to the quality of our awards. Those who attend the spectacular celebration will benefit tremendously from his knowledge and experience,” Mr Hartigan said. Bernard is one of the most in-demand speakers on the Australian corporate speaking circuit and has been for more than a decade. He heads up The Demographic Group, which provides advice on demographic, consumer and social trends for business, and is widely regarded as the country’s leading social commentator by business, media and the broader community. He is a regular columnist for The Australian newspaper and is an adjunct professor at Curtin University Business School. Salt is perhaps best known to the wider community for his desire to identify and tag new tribes and social behaviours such as the “Seachange Shift”, the “Man Drought”, “PUMCINS” (pronounced “pumkins”) and the “Goats Cheese Curtain’. He was also responsible for popularising smashed avocados globally. Today’s RIN Awards launch saw industry representatives and event partners gather for the announcement, which also marked the opening of nominations across the seven award categories. Top performing METS companies from the region will once again be encouraged to do something good for their business and nominate for the upcoming awards. Nominations will remain open until April 17 th and RIN is urging businesses to take the time to prepare their nominations for the diverse range of categories on offer. The awards firmly place the region’s resource services sector in the spotlight, and with so many challenges facing businesses on a daily basis, the event is a positive way to celebrate the many accomplishments happening in the resources sector and a cost-effective way to gain exposure for your business. The awards are free to enter as many times as you like and nominees benefit enormously through recognition with buyers, stakeholders and government. The RIN Awards provide an opportunity to step back from day-to day-business activity and make a valued assessment on the achievements of your organisation and staff, as well as recognise staff for the effort they have contributed to your organisation The 2020 award categories include: Chasing Foreign Markets Award Champion Culture Award Out of the Box Award Safety Foremost Award Connecting in the Community Award Standing out from the Crowd Award Striving for Diversity Award The event has seen a new major, DRA Global, come on board this year alongside silver sponsor Mackay Regional Council. The Gardian Group has supported the event by taking up the new keynote sponsorship package. Category sponsors include Field Mining Services, Local Buying Foundation, Mastermyne and BMA. Gardian Group CEO Peter Phillips said: “The Gardian Group is proud to support the 2020 RIN Awards - a fantastic event in Mackay that recognises local businesses and their outstanding contributions to the resources sector and to the community. We are delighted to be the 2020 Keynote Speaker sponsor and assist in bringing Bernard Salt and his profound business insights to Mackay for this annual celebration.” Established in 2008, the awards showcase excellence in business and the significant contribution that they make to the regional economy and community.
