11 June Two Signature Events Down, Two To Go | Dean's Desk 10 June 11, 2026 By Admin RIN Dean's Desk 0 It's hard to believe we're already staring down EOFY. It feels like only yesterday we were kicking off 2026, and now two of RIN's four signature events are already behind us. Fresh off a hugely successful Safety Conference, our attention is already turning to the next big one: the RIN Awards. Between sold-out events, advocacy work, Awards season and everything happening behind the scenes, there's certainly no sign of things slowing down. 1. RIN Awards – Nominations Open With Safety Conference now behind us, our attention turns to the next major date on the calendar: the RIN Awards. If you didn’t already know: nominations are officially open. One thing I've noticed about our industry is that many of our biggest achievements happen quietly. Great projects get delivered. Businesses expand. Teams overcome enormous challenges. People do exceptional work. And often very few people hear about it. The RIN Awards give us an opportunity to change that. This is our chance to celebrate the incredible capability that exists across our region and recognise the people, businesses, projects and teams that are making a difference. If you've achieved something you're proud of this year, nominate. If one of your colleagues, clients, suppliers or competitors has done something exceptional, nominate them. We also have a small number of sponsorship opportunities still available. Supporting an award category is a fantastic way to demonstrate your commitment to the values and achievements our industry represents. Most importantly, don't assume someone else will put a nomination in. Get involved. 2. Another Sold-Out Industry Briefing Tomorrow, we host our June Industry Briefing, and once again we've sold out. Firstly, thank you. The continued support for these events is something we never take for granted. We'll be hearing from Peabody and I'm looking forward to what will be a valuable discussion around current operations, future opportunities and the broader outlook for the sector. It’s shaping up to be a cold start, but with more than 100 people registered, it’s safe to say our members know when a conversation is worth getting out of bed for. If you're joining us at Harrup Park tomorrow, I'll see you there. 3. RBR Momentum Continues There's been some really positive momentum behind the Regions Before Royalties campaign in recent weeks. One of the biggest developments has been having Meech join the campaign and spend more time out in the community speaking directly with local people and businesses. A major focus for us this year has been refining the conversation away from the traditional "mining versus government" narrative and focusing on the people caught in the middle. We keep coming back to the phrase collateral damage because, unfortunately, that's exactly what many businesses and families are feeling right now. The stories being shared are often difficult to hear, but they're important. They remind us why this campaign matters and why regional voices need to remain part of the conversation. If you haven't already, I'd encourage you to follow the dedicated Regions Before Royalties social media channels to see more of the work happening in this space. And with less than 850 signatures remaining until we hit our next signatures target, now is a great time to sign the petition and help us get there. 4. Pizza for a Purpose Not every update has to be about industry. Today the RIN team enjoyed a few very large (and very good) Laffos pizzas as part of Grapevine Group's Pizza for a Purpose campaign. Throughout June, $5 from every large pizza sold at Laffos is donated to Grapevine Group, helping fund suicide prevention training and awareness programs across our region. As many of you know, RIN and Grapevine have been consistent collaborators over the years, so we were more than happy to get behind another great initiative. I'd encourage you to host your own pizza party this month. It's a simple way to support a great local cause, bring your team together and enjoy some quality pizza at the same time. Looking Ahead If the first half of the year is anything to go by, things aren't slowing down anytime soon. We've got July Networking Drinks around the corner, another economic collaboration in the works and then suddenly it'll be QME season. As always, I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events.
