METS SMEs looking to the global market despite current challenges

METS businesses from the Mackay, Isaac, Whitsunday (MIW) region start their export journey this week with the expertise of the Export Council of Australia.METS businesses from the Mackay, Isaac, Whitsunday (MIW) region start their export journey this week with the expertise of the Export Council of Australia.

The MIW METS Export Hub, as part of Resource Industry Network, is facilitating the online four-week Export Ready Course with funding assistance from the Local Buying Foundation.

MIW METS Export Hub manager Dean Kirkwood said the participating businesses would benefit greatly from the expertise of the Export Council of Australia and the online business pitching workshops being delivered by leading Australian presenter Andrew Klein.

“Now is the time to start the journey to be export ready,” Mr Kirkwood said.

“There’s never been a better time to start to think about export, and let’s face it, there’s no point in standing still waiting for Covid-19 to pass. We’ve got to be able to progress our business in the new world.

“What the participating businesses will get from the Export Ready course is a template to set their business up ready to go. The online content is world class and our partner, Export Council of Australia, has developed a fantastic program and custom-designed it for METS businesses.

“They will bring in great examples of other METS businesses who are successfully exporting to markets around the world, and learn from leading online presenter Andrew Klein on how to do business in an online environment,” he said.

Participating businesses include:

  1. Mackay Conveyor equipment
  2. Impress Solutions
  3. Linked Group Services
  4. Coalport Bags

These businesses will complete the Export Council of Australia’s ‘Growing a Business Online’ course, be mentored by an experienced presenter in building an export business plan, be provided with an invaluable handbook, and be part of the ‘Promoting Your Business in the Digital Age’ online workshop with Andrew Klein.

Mr Kirkwood added that the business landscape has changed dramatically in the past few months but businesses still had to find new and innovative ways to do business and embrace the changes as a result.

The MIW METS Export Hub was established in 2019 as a result of funding from the Australian Government, Queensland Government, and the Local Buying Foundation, and is tasked with identifying, establishing and driving opportunities in the export space for businesses in the MIW region.
