Sharp minds needed to maintain our innovative edge

Resource Industry Network (RIN) wants the Mackay community to jump on board its latest campaign to attract a talented and skilled workforce to the region.

As the region’s peak industry association, RIN has developed a suite of videos designed to attract a variety of skilled workers to the region to ensure its innovation prowess continues well into the future and contributes to the big solutions required across a variety of industries including METS and mining, agriculture, renewables, biofuels, defence, tourism and more.

The videos have been developed with funding assistance as part of the Queensland Government’s Adaption Grant and feature eight of Mackay’s business leaders who highlight many positive aspects about our economy, our industry base, and the opportunities available to individuals seeking to be challenged and rewarded in their careers.

As G&S Engineering National Workforce Planning & Recruitment manager Kimberly Matheson states in one of the videos: ““For people considering moving to Mackay, don’t think of it as a stepping stone. This place can be somewhere you can build your career, work with great teams of people, do incredible work, and retire here.”

RIN general manager Dean Kirkwood said local production company Tropical Exposure had developed the videos in conjunction with RIN communications and marketing manager Jodie Thompson to produce two videos that “speak to” talented individuals looking to use their knowledge and skills and contribute to the problem-solving challenges that our core industries face.

“We’ve taken a two-pronged approach to the videos in that we are targeting a much-needed skilled workforce in areas such as trades, logistics, transport, warehousing, operators, safety officers, supervisors, as well as targeting the greatest minds in engineering, innovation, and technology.

“To maintain our innovative edge, we need to attract Australia’s sharpest minds to contribute their critical thinking abilities to help solve the problems faced by our extensive industry base,” Mr Kirkwood said.

RIN is asking the Mackay community to share the videos with their friends, family and networks to help spread the message about Mackay and its extensive offerings which include affordability in housing, a lifestyle that boasts the reef and rainforest destinations, and easy access to metropolitan centres.
