12 August MIW businesses ready to drive their METS solutions to success August 12, 2020 By Admin RIN General 0 METS businesses in the Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday region are learning from the best over the next six weeks to drive commercial opportunities. Five local METS businesses have kickstarted a six-week long journey at the newly opened Resources Centre of Excellence to accelerate the commercialisation of their products and services. The 2020 Regional Accelerator program is a Queensland Government-funded program, which is being administered by METS Ignited and facilitated by the Resource Industry Network (RIN), and aims to boost SMEs working in the mining equipment, technology and services (METS) sector by helping them develop key skills. RIN acting general manager Dean Kirkwood said the Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday (MIW) region was a world-class leader in METS solutions and the Regional Accelerator project exposed local METS businesses to real customers and leading expertise. “This will be the first program to operate out of the Resources Centre of Excellence with one of the biggest draw cards being the fact that participants get to liaise with, and pitch to, procurement representatives from major mining houses. “They will also have access to specialist training and industry advice, collaborate with like-minded businesses, and expand their commercial opportunities by learning from the expertise of our delivery partners and presenters including consultant Annabel Dolphin and Andrew Klein,” Mr Kirkwood said. Australia-wide, the METS sector contributes $92 billion to the economy with a sizeable portion of that attributed to the MIW region. It is for this reason that programs like this are important in further cementing the MIW region’s position and developing the local METS sector. METS Ignited Chief Executive Officer Adrian Beer says now more than ever, programs such as the RIN accelerator program and state-of-the-art facilities like the RCOE, are vital to supporting regional businesses that play a critical role in driving technology and innovation for Australia’s mining industry and the Queensland METS sector. “Australian companies have a long history of providing reliable and innovative solutions to the mining sector, METS Ignited is proud to be a supporting partner in another regional program providing capability development and commercialisation pathways to local businesses,” Mr Beer said.
